overbearing and wants to watch as l layout the paper design. l do not feel

Explain that you are doing only one of two things at any one

When you teach, you do not develop: you show a final result, then explain

how you reached that result. (Since you have done it before, you can
explain all the steps without showing any intermediary mistakes!) You are
PAID to teach!
When you develop, you do not have time to explain the intricacies of ur
work and, as ''the watcher'' does not have the necessary knowledge or
experience, he/she can not follow ur line of thoughts. & you do not have
the time to explain it: you are PAID to produce.
Get paid to do the design. then get paid to explain how you did it!

I this this depends on a few factors.

If ur client is paying for you to design a layout, then it is ur duty as
the designer to design & produce the layout according to the client brief.
This will involve numerous proofs to them to approve the design along the
way. If they are a particulary anal client, this may involve 5+ proofs so
it might be worth spending 1,2 hours with the client & getting the design
totally perfect rather than stringing it out over a period of days.

On the other hand, if you are doing this for free - i think the person
should be gratefull of ur time & not mess you around!

Hope this helps!

Give them one price for the non-interference design and charge

them a lot more if they must ''monitor'' you. :P Tack on even more if

they want to ''help''.

I get this all the time, just explain to them that ur task

required total concentration, as the key to the task will mainly be the

cost, any wasted time would increase the cost, its ok if they wish to pay

double or more.

But do it in a dipolmatic way as you also do not wish to offen them.

One reason why they do this is to watch you, hoping they could learn to
save from using you in future, but with it, the person would be asking
questions non-stop, you simply cant get on with the task at hand.
